Our club has been active in the Tri Cities since 1967
Situated in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada, (the City of the Arts) the Port Moody Rock and Gem Club provides facilities and events for those interested in the lapidary arts and earth sciences. Founded in 1978, our non-profit organization is a member of the British Columbia Lapidary Society, the Gem & Mineral Federation of Canada, and the Port Moody Arts Centre Society.
Our club was originally known as the Port Coquitlam Lapidary Club, established in 1967 in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia by lapidary enthusiast Bill Meakin. The organization rebranded and moved to neighbouring Port Moody in 1978 when workshop space was secured in the newly constructed Kyle Centre. Our workshop operates in Kyle Centre to this day.
Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing semi-precious and precious rocks and gemstones. Our lapidary workshop at Kyle Centre provides members with the tools needed to work stone for both jewellery and display. We participate in and host field trips at sites across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
Our membership meets the last Thursday of every month (July, August, and December excepted) at 7:00 PM at the Port Moody Arts Centre for our general meeting. Our membership also meets for a BBQ during the summer, and a potluck dinner in December.
If you plan to attend one of our meetings for the first time, please contact us in advance to confirm the time and place.
Our Annual Rock and Gem Show is held in October of every year at Kyle Centre in Port Moody. This event includes the display of members' work, dealers, silent auction, and games for the kids.
Our elected Executive conducts the day-to-day business of the club according to our club constitution and bylaws.
